Above the Line: Lessons in Leadership and Life ...

Lessons on leadership and team building from Ohio State's head football coach, drawing heavily on the 2014 season and his team's remarkable run to the championship in the face of adversity. Since he took over at Bowling Green 14 years ago, Urban Frank Meyer III has established himself as one of the elite coaches in the annals of college football. With three national championships and a record of 142-26, he has achieved remarkable results with many teams. But it is Meyer's recent work at The Ohio State University that has elevated him into the realm of such iconic coaching names as Paul (Bear) Bryant, Knute Rockne, and OSU's own Woody Hayes. Never was that work more successful than in the 2014 season, which ended with Meyer's Buckeyes capturing the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship with a 42-20 victory over Oregon. That the triumph came with a third-string quarterback at the helm - and after OSU had suffered a brutal early season loss and endured the tragic loss of a teammate - only made the achievement that much more extraordinary. How did Ohio State, a school many thought did not even deserve to be in the playoffs, end up at the summit of college football? In Above the Line, Urban Meyer answers this question and many more. Pulling back the curtain on the high-profile, high-pressure world he operates in, he offers listeners a groundbreaking game plan for creating a culture of success that engages and inspires the people around them - the very game plan he followed every day in the Buckeyes' historic 2014 season. A student of psychology long before he became a coach, Meyer believes that trust is the bedrock of great achievements and healthy relationships and explains how to build it, step by step - whether in a team, a family, or a Fortune 500 company. 1. Frank Henry Vigar (July 14, 1917 May 31, 2004) was an English cricketer who played first class cricket for Essex between 1938 and 1954. A right-handed batsman, and leg break bowler, Vigar served as an all rounder with 8,858 runs at 26.28 and 241 wickets at 37.90. From his rained-off debut in 1938, Vigar went on to play 257 matches for his county. His greatest success came in the "golden summer" of 1947, where he scored 1,735 runs and took 64 wickets. A partnership with Peter Smith of 218 for the final wicket remains an Essex record. He spent the Second World War serving in the Royal Air Force. As his career progressed, his once useful bowling became both less successful and subordinate to Smith's, though he remained a sound and reliable batsman until a decline in form prompted the end of his playing career in 1954. He made minor county and invitation appearances on occasion up to 1965, and spent three years coaching West of Scotland before retiring.

Peter May led the England cricket team on a tour of Australia in the 1958-59 season and played a five-match Test series against Australia for The Ashes. Each Test consisted of six days, with five hours play, eight ball overs were used. The tour was organised by the Marylebone Cricket Club and matches outside the Tests were played under the MCC name. The England team had the formidable bowling attack of Frank Tyson (18.56), Fred Trueman (21.57), Brian Statham (24.84), Peter Loader (22.51), Jim Laker (21.24), Tony Lock (25.52), and the all-rounder Trevor Bailey (bowling average 29.21), the outstanding wicket-keeper Godfrey Evans and the batting of Peter May (46.77), Colin Cowdrey (44.06), Tom Graveney (44.38) and Raman Subba Row (46.85), later joined by Ted Dexter (47.89). (The bracketed figures are the players' averages at the conclusion of their Test careers.) They had won the last three Ashes series in 1953, 1954-55 and 1956, and were labelled the strongest team ever to leave England, but lost the series and The Ashes to Australia 4-0.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Frank Rowbotham Foster was a Warwickshire and England all-rounder whose career was cut short by an accident during World War I. Nonetheless, his achievements during the early 1910s are suffient to rank him as one of cricket's finest all-round players. Foster was educated at Solihull School, in the West Midlands. He was a fast-medium left-handed bowler who could develop a great deal of spin, which meant the ball could, in the words of a later Wisden, "double its speed upon hitting the ground". He bowled from very wide of the bowling crease, but was very straight because of the swing inwards his easy body action generated, whilst his height allowed him to gain a lot of bounce of the fast wickets of the day

Arthur Fielder

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Arthur Fielder was the leading fast bowler in English cricket for the decade before World War I and one of the key contributors to Kent's four County Championship successes between 1906 and 1913. In some ways the founder of modern fast bowling, Fielder was the first fast bowler to rely on swing rather than the traditional break-back. He took a fairly long run for his time and could make the ball move away from leg stump to off with great effect. On the very fast pitches that prevailed in his time in dry weather Fielder could be a very dangerous bowler, especially with Kent's array of slip fieldsmen. This swerve, and an occasional break-back that bowled many batsmen made Fielder still effective even when his pace declined after 1909. Whilst strictly a tail-end batsman, he scored an undefeated 112 against Worcestershire at Stourbridge batting at number 11 and shared a partnership of 235 for the tenth wicket with Frank Woolley who scored 185

Screens of Terror

'No other collection to date has so acutely, intelligently and coherently demonstrated the inseparability of information, entertainment, policy and public perception as prime vectors of 'war on terror' discourses and sensibilities as these are represented in Hollywood products. If I had to choose a single source to interrogate the limitless suffusion throughout Hollywood texts of Hegemonic gaze and subjectivity - regardless of genre, whether 'critical' or 'mainstream' - it would be Screens of Terror.' - Oliver Boyd-Barrett, Professor of Journalism & Telecommunications, Bowling Green State University 'A compelling and timely interrogation of contemporary images of terror, this book has much to offer everyday consumers of popular films and television, be they students or casual readers.' - Cynthia Weber, Professor of International Relations, University of Sussex Right from the first moment, the 11 September 2001 attacks and the 'war on terror' were closely associated with film and media. In an effort to 're-brand' US foreign policy, Washington consulted with the advertising and PR industries and within days of 9/11 - itself often described as being 'like a movie' - also consulted Hollywood. It seemed that film-makers might be about to cooperate with a major, long-term propaganda offensive, harking back to the films of the early Cold War era or even those of World War Two. Screens of Terror examines whether such expectations have been borne out. It asks: . How far have the film and TV industries been supportive of the 'war on terror' and how far have they been critical of it? . How has the war film genre developed since 9/11? . How have other popular genres responded to the 'war on terror'? . How have film and TV represented the enemy Other and the Western Self? Ten years on, this volume brings together European and North American scholars working in politics and international relations as well as in literature, film, media and cultural studies to take stock and assess the shape and significance of the post-9/11 cultural moment. Edited by Philip Hammond, Professor of Media and Communications and head of the Centre for Media and Culture Research at London South Bank University. With contributions from: Matthew Alford . Martin Barker . Graham Barnfield Michael Frank . Brigitte Nacos . Jack Holland . Hugh Ortega Breton . Joe Parker Fran Pheasant-Kelly . Rebekah Sinclair . Mark Straw . Liane Tanguay Guy Westwell .
